Travel News: 15 May 2006: Myanmar Capital Move
The Burmese government is settling into its brand new capital Naypyidaw (near Pyinmana), which lies about 600 kilometers north of the old capital Rangoon. The reason for the move is uncertain, but some theories include fear of a US invasion or it being the advice of the leader's astrologer. Don't count on going to Naypyidaw anytime soon, as the governmental areas are off-limits to civilians. |
